Yoshino cherry tree

We all know the famous Yoshino cherry tree which comes from a small town near Japan called Yoshino town. The town is the center of attention when they are about to bloom. There is an area where there are about 30.000 cherry trees, when it is time for them to bloom the entire placed looks like it was taken out of a fairy tale. The trees are small, they can reach only up to 15 meters in height. Nobody knows where the Yoshino cherry tree comes from, what we do know is that it is a combination between two types of Prunus.

 

The Yoshino cherry tree is also called sakura and it prefers a temperate climate, well drained soil and lots of sun exposure. The flowers of the tree are absolutely amazing, they have a very delicate smell and they can be pink or white. The flower has a number of 5 petals and they grow in clusters.

Most people do not know much about the fruit of the Yoshino cherry tree because the flowers are so overwhelming. The fruit of this tree is small and has a sweet juice. It is best that you avoid getting the juice on your clothes because you will never be able to remove the stain.

The Yoshino cherry tree is mostly used for decorating large spaces such as parks. It is used because of its color and fragrance. Usually it is planted in large numbers in order to get that wow feeling when they start to bloom. The soil where you intend on planting a Yoshino cherry tree must be well drained and acidic. Before you plant the tree make sure that it has sun exposure most of the day and that the soil is moist.

They are exposed to a lot of insects that can harm them such as: borers, scales, different types of caterpillars and aphids. They are also exposed to a lot of diseases which can harm the tree more if it is raining. Some of these diseases are: black knot, a type of fungus which can damage the leaves and twig cankers on the fruits. If taken care of properly you will not need to worry about these things.
