Daisies

The most simple and beautiful flower in the floral world is for sure the daisy. Also is very popular when it comes to offer it as a gift or to grow in a garden.

Daisies are native from the north and central Europe and are known as part of the family of Compositae, now called Asteraceae.

Their name mean “day’s eye” and is coming from the Anglo Saxon “daes eage”.

The daisy is part of the kingdom plantae, phylum Anthophyta, class Magnoliopsida, order Asterales, family Asteraceae, and genus Bellis.

The daisy symbolizes purity, innocence and new beginnings. Its evergreen leaves form a basal tuft or a rosette. Daisies can be spread by division or by sowing seeds in the spring or late autumn. Daisy’s flowers are opening at dawn and closes up by night. Its leaves are edible and usually used in salads.

Even if the color of its petals is most of the times white, sometimes they have a pink or rose color.  A daisy is made of two types of flowers with disk florets (at the center) and petals like white ray florets (at the periphery) that match perfectly and creates the impression of a single flower. Leaf’s texture differs from smooth to hairy and is narrow at the base and slightly lobed. The flowers’ stalks are longer than the leaves of the daisy.

Gerbera Daisy is just one type from the many types of daisies. Here are some examples of types of daisies: Blue Daisy, Spanish Daisy, Lazy Daisy, African Daisy, Paris Daisy, Gerbera Daisy, Sunshine Daisy, Shasta Daisy, Gloriosa Daisy, Giant Daisy and so on. The most famous varieties of daisies are the Shasta Daisy and the African Daisy.
